Since I was born into an artistic family where creativity was encouraged, I've always had a love for the design world. My father was an architect who designed many well known buildings in the Los Angeles area and my mother a toy designer who worked on many popular toys in the 1980's. Having these two authorities in design and imaginativeness inspired me to follow my own creative path. I studied at Otis College of Art and Design and later earned my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Art Center College of Design. I went on to work as a Senior Graphic Designer on projects for many large companies such as Guess? Inc., Marvel Comics, Mossimo, Lucky Brand, Motley Crue, Tony Hawk, E! Entertainment Channel, and Discovery Channel among many others.
After losing my mother to pancreatic cancer and giving birth to a beautiful son of my own, I became determined to create a specialized business that focused on creating things that hold special and immeasurable meaning to people. Through this path Soul Kitchen Keepsakes was born, the name stemming from my Los Angeles childhood listening to The Doors and local punk band X.
My goal is to create one of a kind, custom keepsakes from old recipes, greeting cards, wedding invitations, and photos which honor the important things in all our lives: our loved ones. A customer sends an image, and each file is retouched digitally by hand, then fired in a kiln at high temperatures to created a permanent image into the item of your choice. This is my way of preserving memories of those who are most important to you so they can be handed down to future generations. I love hearing about how something I made touched someones heart and put a smile on their face. -Heather
